Itsycal alternatives for Mac
Free and paid menu bar calendar apps that replace or extend Itsycal, sorted by your macOS version and the feature you are missing.
People look for an Itsycal alternative for four reasons: since 5 October 2026 Itsycal's new features ship only for macOS 27; it cannot edit events; it has no time zones; and it shows no countdown. The short answer: on macOS 27, keep Itsycal unless you need editing. On macOS 15 and 26, Calendr is the free pick and Dot or Blipcal the paid ones. On macOS 14, Dot or Blipcal.
Facts checked 6 November 2026.

The alternatives, one by one
Dato
World clocks for 15,000 cities, the next event in the menu bar, fullscreen meeting alerts, reminders, widgets and Shortcuts, from a well-known open-source maker. It creates events but does not edit them, and its plain-English entry is limited: type the whole event in the title and it fills in the date and time, in English only. Older builds for macOS 10.14 to 15 are free but frozen.
Dot
The most complete one-time app today: month and week views, editing, natural-language entry, a countdown with styles, reminders, world clocks, event search, meeting prep and floating or fullscreen alerts. Launched in January 2026 with reviews from The Verge and MacStories. A 14-day trial.
Calendr
A free menu bar calendar that now edits events and reminders and parses natural language (October 2026), with several time zones in the menu bar clock and grouped meeting join. No website; the GitHub README is its product page. The free pick if you edit events and are on macOS 15 or later.
MeetingBar
Not a calendar, a meeting console: the next meeting in the menu bar, one click to join across 50+ services, a direct Google Calendar connection, Shortcuts and fullscreen reminders. No month grid, no event creation. If Itsycal was only ever your way to join calls, this replaces it on macOS 12 and later.
Fantastical
The full calendar app, with a menu bar item and a single-click Join button as Premium features. A subscription, which is the main reason people look at the apps on this page instead.
InstaCal
A full calendar living in the menu bar: six views, natural-language quick add, editing, direct Google, Microsoft and CalDAV accounts, invitations, and a universal purchase for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Watch. App Store only and macOS 15 or later.
Menu Bar Calendar (Sindre Sorhus)
A month grid one click away and nothing more: it shows no events by design and points you to Dato when you want them. The closest thing to Itsycal's grid without Itsycal, if you are on macOS 26.
Blipcal
A menu bar calendar that edits events in place and adds them in plain English, shows the next meeting with a countdown and joins it with ⌘J, puts time zones in the menu bar and in a strip you can scrub, and runs with every feature on macOS 14 Sonoma and later. 14-day trial, and the month grid stays free after it.

"Partial" for Dato: on the countdown row it shows the next event in the menu bar, but a countdown was not verified; on quick add it fills in the date and time from a typed title, in English only. "Not checked" means not verified. Checked 6 November 2026.
Two facts other roundups get wrong
For the record
- Itsycal does have a join shortcut: Command-J joins the first active meeting, and Copy Meeting Link arrived in 0.27.2. At least one comparison page says it has no join button. Itsycal's site.
- Itsycal does not have natural-language entry; the maintainer declined it in 2022 (issue 193). It also cannot edit existing events (issue 40, open since 2016).
