A glance at the top of the screen should tell you how long until your next meeting. macOS does not do that, but several menu bar apps do, and they differ in what they show, when they hide, and whether one key joins the call. Here is every real option, dated, and how to set the countdown up.
What macOS shows about your next meeting
Nothing in the menu bar. You get a notification shortly before an event, and the Calendar widget in Notification Centre lists what is next, but the menu bar itself shows only the clock.

Choosing a countdown you can read
A few things matter more than the app:
- Title plus minutes, or minutes only. “Standup in 12m” tells you what and when; a bare “12m” needs you to remember what.
- What happens when nothing is due. The best apps hide the text and leave the date, rather than showing “Nothing” all afternoon.
- A stable width. If the item changes width every minute, the whole menu bar shuffles. Look for a fixed width or a countdown that only changes width at the 10-minute and 60-minute marks.
- Lead time. Decide how far ahead it should look: an hour, three hours, the rest of the day.
- Which calendars count. A birthday calendar should not become your next meeting.
Set up the next meeting countdown in Blipcal
Turn it on
Settings > Menu bar > Show the next event. The preview underneath shows “Standup in 12m” at once.
Choose how far ahead
“Up to” sets the window: 1, 2, 3, 6 or 12 hours ahead, or the rest of the day. Outside it, the text hides.
Pick the calendars that count
Settings > Calendars. Unticked calendars never appear in the menu bar. “Only meetings with a video link” narrows it further.
Join with ⌘J
From ten minutes before, a video glyph appears and ⌘J joins the first live meeting while the panel is open.
Joining from the menu bar
Blipcal detects Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Chime, Jitsi, FaceTime, Slack huddles, Whereby, Around and Discord links in the location, URL or notes of an event, unwraps Outlook Safe Links, and opens the app link when the app is installed. The event’s popover has Join and Copy link buttons too.
