Calendar and Reminders access

Grant Blipcal access to your calendars and reminders in System Settings, and bring Google, Exchange or iCloud calendars to your Mac.

The short version

  • A calendar that edits events needs Full Access to Calendars. macOS asks once.
  • Reminders access is a separate switch, asked for only when you turn reminders on.
  • Google, Exchange and iCloud calendars come through System Settings > Internet Accounts.
  1. 1

    The first prompt

When you allow access from the Welcome panel, macOS asks whether Blipcal may have full access to your calendar. Choose Allow Full Access. macOS 14 introduced two levels, Write Only and Full Access; a calendar that shows and edits events needs Full Access. Nothing it reads leaves your Mac.

  2. 2

    If you clicked Don't Allow

Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Calendars and switch Blipcal on. The agenda offers an Open System Settings button that takes you straight there. If Blipcal is not in the list, macOS has not asked yet: click Allow calendar access in the agenda or in Settings > Calendars.

  3. 3

    Reminders are separate

Reminders have their own permission. Blipcal asks for it only when you turn on Show reminders in Settings > Calendars. Decline it and everything else still works; the switch lives in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Reminders.

  4. 4

    Add Google, Exchange or iCloud

Blipcal shows the calendars your Mac already has. To add Google, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Yahoo or a CalDAV account, open System Settings > Internet Accounts, add the account with Calendars on, and it appears in Settings > Calendars. There is no sign-in inside the app.

What works without access

The month grid, the date and clock in the menu bar, the time-zone strip, keyboard navigation and every setting work with no calendar access at all. Showing, adding and editing events, the agenda, the next-event text and reminders need it.

Shared and delegated calendars

Calendars shared with you appear if Calendar.app shows them. Delegated Google calendars are not available through macOS accounts, so they do not appear here either; a direct Google integration is on the roadmap.

Events are missing
  • The calendar is unticked in Settings > Calendars.
  • The account is not added in System Settings > Internet Accounts, or its Calendars switch is off.
  • Calendar’s sync range is short: in Calendar’s settings, under Accounts, set the account to sync more than the last month.
Access was lost after a reinstall

macOS ties the grant to the app’s signature. After reinstalling, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Calendars and switch Blipcal on again.

Nothing happens when I grant access

Quit Blipcal from the right-click menu and open it again. It re-reads the permission on launch.
